Hi There
I have just joined as I have boughta T25 panel van 1990 with a 1Y 1.9 deisel engine. My first quiery is regarding checking the level of the engine oil. The dipstick isnt registering any oil even after adding a litre. Could this be because the engine is tilted at 45 degrees and therefore the original dipstick is effectively redundant and as such will need modified? |

Hi ,
If it still has it's own dipstick then yes,you will need to alter/change it to one from an AAZ.Best to drain the oil and refill with correct volume, then mod or change the dipstick to give you an accurate reading. Ed |

Hi Phil,
AAz is the code for the 1.6 diesel ,normally found in the T25.A lot of the guys that fit the 1y as a replacement strip the sump off, change the dipstick tube over from the AAz and fit a baffle plate before refitting the sump. The baffle saves oil starvation on hills or heavy braking as it sloshes about. I use that engine in mines - the converted dipstick should be on the right hand side of the block as you look in the engine bay - don't think the original position for the dipstick on the 1Y would work cos you would probably lose oil.
Best to drain all you oil and change filter - measure new oil in and see where it comes to on your dipstick. |
