Hi all,
when I normally go to start my 2.1 DJ engined T3, when I first turn the key to position "1", I usually hear a couple of small one-second long "humming" noises from the back then when I turn the key to position "2" it starts first time every time.
Today, I go to turn the key and the first one-second long "hum" becomes a 3 second long "dying hum" type sound and when I turn the key it now won't start at all!
It's turning over but won't actually fire.
Anybody know what's happened here?
Electric fuel pump? Relay?
Battery is fine and everything else works ok.
HELP!
Z

Well, all fixed now for a cost of NOWT!
Here goes......
Is it the fuel pump? (as that wasn't heard buzzing as normal on start up-btw it's the electric in line pump under the bus)
Check fuel pump fuse (no.5) - OK
Check voltage to fuel pump - NO VOLTAGE TO FUEL PUMP (even when cranking starter)
Check fuel pump relay by pulling it out and putting 12V across 85/86 - fine!
Check digijet relay by doing the same - fine!

But still no voltage to fuel pump coming thru relay?

Circuit diagram shows voltage coming from alternator via starter to relays so I follow the big wire down from the two relays to the starter and find..........a big wire from the relays connected to absolutely nothing lol!

Basically, the wire to the relays from the starter had corroded so much at the starter connection that it had simply disintegrated!

20 mins later, rewired and reconnected....

Jobs a good 'un.

Thanks for your help anyway guys!
